The Head Special Programme Centre Profile

Dr. Attaochu Ugbalu EGBITA holds NCE (Technical) in Electrical/Electronic Technology from Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe, Gombe State; B.Technology Edu. in Electrical Technology from Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna Niger State, an M.Ed. in Industrial Technical Education; and a Ph.D. in Technical and Vocational Education obtained from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Dr. Egbita is a researcher, an educator, and a curriculum specialist. Dr. A.U. Egbita possesses skills in teaching and fostering skills development in students, facilitating learning, guiding students through different stages of skills acquisition, and contributing to students overall professional development.

His areas of research interest include technical and vocational education, science and technology education, teacher education, digitalization in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), inclusion and youth development, curriculum development, entrepreneurial development in TVET, greening TVET, and resilience. He has served in different capacities as a resource person, training out-of-school youth in trades and entrepreneurship skills acquisition, certificate in International Executive Diploma in Disaster Management, desk officer to National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to develop Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Curriculum. Dr. Egbita has attended many local and international trainings, seminars, conferences, and workshops and participated in research projects. Dr. Egbita has authored and co-authored book chapters and published several academic papers in national and international journals.

He is a member of several professional organizations, including

  • Technology Education Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TEPAN)
  • Association of Forum for African Women Educationist, Nigeria (F.A.W.E.N.)
  • Curriculum Organization of Nigeria (CON).
  • Nigerian Primary and Teacher Education Association (NPTEA)
  • National Association of Science Humanities and Education Research (NASHER)

Dr. A. U. Egbita is committed to fostering skills development and innovations in TVET. He advocates hands-on learning experiences and utilization of technology-enhanced learning approaches that ensure continuous practical skills learning during and post-emergency situations. He is currently the Head of the Special Programme Centre of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
